SIR – At last someone seems to be attempting to turn up the heat on the energy firms who have been overcharging consumers for years.

Ofgem has now been handed powers to put a stop to the overcharging, and ordering the power giants to pay compensation to all those they overcharge.

The average family has been cheated of up to £430 a year by these greedy firms, and now it’s time to claim back all that is owed.

That is in the region of £11 billion a year. Staggering.

It is nothing more than the energy companies deserve and now, perhaps, their fatcat bosses won’t be having such enormous bonuses for their Christmas presents.

It is only by breaking the stranglehold of these big six energy giants that the customer will be able to get a genuinely competative price.
