SIR – Many years ago deterrents gave Britain peace, sanity and justice.
There were very few murders, if any. The horrendous murder of two female police officers last month was almost unbelievable.
Years ago the killer would have got the birch and cat of nine tails. Even extremely hardened criminals really feared that.
Unfortunately, that won’t happen now so I would send murderers to a real prison in Saudi Arabia where they would pray to die.
