A WORCESTER school has secured its place in history by burying a time capsule that won’t be uncovered until 2050.

Pupils and staff at Christopher Whitehead Language College placed a collection of memories six feet under ground, where they will stay until they are uncovered in 40 years’ time.

The contents of the capsule, put together in celebration of the school’s recent Ofsted inspection, was decided by pupils who voted in their mentor groups.

The Ofsted report itself was just one of 40 items in the final collection, alongside an article from your Worcester News reporting the results of the inspection.

Other memories ranged from sports day records and a school prospectus to video footage of a recent production of Fame. Headteacher Neil Morris said the idea came together as a way of celebrating a successful 12 months at the Bromwich Road school.

He said: “Whichever way you look at it, 2010 has been an outstanding year for Christopher Whitehead school, and we wanted to celebrate that. Sometimes we can all get a bit bogged down but this gives us a chance to reflect, at the start of a new year, on what has been a wonderful time for the school.”

Mr Morris noted the changes that have taken place in Worcester and the wider world in the last 40 years as an exciting motivation to provide future pupils a glance into 2010.

He said: “Who would have thought 40 years ago that we’d be doing online registration in the mornings. In 1970 we had one computer at this school, now we have 350. Things change at such a pace, imagine what it will be like in 40 more years?”
