A MAN who scratched a car with a key as he made his way home from the pub has been ordered to pay the victim almost £1,000 compensation.

Anthony Jeynes, of Lancaster Close, Upton-upon-Severn, admitted damaging a black Ford Focus belonging to Sarah Southwell when he appeared at Worcester Magistrates Court.

Sarah Stock, prosecuting, said Jeynes was seen on CCTV walking past the Star Hotel at 12.50am on Sunday, October 24, last year.

The 20-year-old was seen getting something out of his pocket before scratching a near-side door panel and petrol cap.

During his police interview, Jeynes said he had been out drinking in the Plough and had spent about £60 on alcohol.

He said he had no memory of what happened on his way home.

District judge Bruce Morgan said: “This was a wilful act of mindless destruction.”

Jeynes was ordered to pay £944.70 in compensation to Ms Southwell for the damage he caused to her car, and was also ordered to pay £85 in court costs.
