THERE were mummies of a different kind at a Stourport-on-Severn school where children were learning about ancient Egypt.
Year three teachers at Burlish Park Primary School captivated their pupils' imaginations by organising an Ancient Egyptian themed day.
Children stepped back in time by dressing as ancient Egyptians and took part in a variety of activities including the gruesome mummification process which involved mummifying tomatoes.
They also designed and built pyramids and held a traditional ancient Egyptian feast.
Beth Tringham, year three teacher, said: "The children were enthralled throughout the day and they said the best part was pretending the tomatoes were brains, scooping out the contents and having a go at mummifying them.
"During their role play, a child was chosen to be mummified with toilet roll along with her chosen pet, which was a camel, and her favourite slave to accompany her to the afterlife.
"The day really inspired the children and they now can’t wait to learn more."
