ONE OF jewels in Worcester’s crown is being featured on a popular television programme being aired on BBC One tomorrow.

Escape To The Country, which visits different parts of Britain helping people to relocate to country properties, came to the city in the summer and filmed at the Museum of Royal Worcester.

Presenter Jules Hudson and a film crew visited the museum on a sunny June morning and learnt about how the factory worked, as well as taking a tour of the museum. Jules also tried his hand at gilding under the guidance and watchful eye of Master Gilder Ken Russell.

Museum director Amanda Savidge, who was filmed during the session, said: “Jules arrived outside the museum and he was very interested to know about the factory and what it was like when it was working.

“He was also interested to know about the museum and we got a few special pieces out of the show cases to show him and he was able to handle the pieces.” She said he was very nervous about dropping them.

“He had a little go at gilding with Ken Russell. He absolutely loved it. He wrote in our visitors’ book that he’d had a wonderful time and that Ken was a legend.”

Mrs Savidge added: “It was lovely to do and I hope it attracts people to come to the museum and to the city.”

Escape To The Country featuring Worcester is on BBC One at 3.55pm tomorrow (Wednesday December 7).
