THE location for the first student accommodation for Hereford’s upcoming university has been revealed.

NMiTE (New Model in Technology and Engineering) has signed a an agreement with mental health charity Herefordshire Mind for a two-year lease on Miller Court in Ledbury Road, Hereford.

The 14-bed purpose-built building will provide accommodation for the soon-to-arrive Design Cohort of students and for future students of the university.

The building on Miller Court was originally originally opened in October 2016 to provide nursing and residential care for people recovering from mental health illnesses, but that facility closed in March of this year.

Professor Elena Rodriguez-Falcon, NMiTE’s acting Chief Executive, said: “We are very pleased to have come to this agreement with Herefordshire Mind, which gives us the option to buy the premises after two years. We also hope this will be the start of an ongoing partnership with Herefordshire Mind for future pastoral support services.”

Mark Waller, Chair of Herefordshire Mind, added: “We are excited to be partnering with NMiTE at this formative stage and delighted that our investment in Miller Court will be put to such good use for the benefit of our community.”

The Design Cohort who will reside at Miller Court are 24 designers who will spend their gap year helping to design and build the future university facilities.

The students have been recruited from all over the UK and are 50:50 male and female as university leaders hope to increase the number of women working in engineering.
