THE search is on to find more photographs and memories of the John Masefield High School in Ledbury, which will celebrate its 40th anniversary this autumn.

The anecdotes and images will be used in an exhibition which will be open to the public, towards the close of the year.

The high school, off Mabel's Furlong, came into existence in the autumn of 1978, following the amalgamation of Ledbury’s Grammar and Secondary schools and Canon Frome School.

It was officially opened on October 6 1978 by Captain T R Dunne, the then Lord Lieutenant of Herefordshire and Worcestershire.

A school spokesman said: "We will be recognising the anniversary by holding a series of events and by setting challenges for our students.

"Their first challenge is to find a quote to inspire students and staff to be conscientious, considerate or co-operative - the three attributes that we all strive for."

The spokesman added: "Students have been asked to find a quote, make a picture, take a photo or find an image to represent their quote and submit their entry to their form tutor by October 19, and the winners will receive house points and see their work displayed in their form rooms."

But public involvement is also being sought to make the anniversary extra special.

The spokesman added: "Several of our staff have been looking through old photographs and records to make displays which will be open to public view later in the year.

"If you have any photographs or memories please send them to admin@jmhs.hereford.sch.uk."
