MAN’S best friends will take over Stevens Park in Wollescote for the second annual Bark In The Park dog show this weekend.

The show, organised by Friends of Wollescote Park, takes place on Saturday (October 13) with a host of prize categories on offer.

They include ‘Most Handsome Hound’, ‘Dog that Looks Most Like its Owner’, and ‘Fancy Dress for Dogs’.

‘The Golden Oldies’ class starts the show at 10.30am, and the ‘Best in Show’ class, sponsored by the Greyhound Trust, ends the event at 1pm.

There will also be refreshments from the Food for Thought Cafe in Stourbridge, a dog-themed raffle and a pet artist on hand.

Organiser Julia Marks said: “We had a fantastic day last year, all the classes were well-attended, and it was great to see so many people and their pets enjoy the event together.

“We’re looking forward to an even better day this year - Blacks Vets have donated a fabulous prize, as well as Dudley Mind, Guide Dogs and PDSA having great stalls.”

She added that more information and a full list of classes are available on Facebook and the Friends website.

Money raised will support the Friends of Wollescote Park’s latest projects - an easy access path through part of the park and new signs at the main entrance of the park.

The park has recently been accepted as a Satellite Healthy Hub by Dudley council, which means the Friends group will have a busy few months as twice-weekly activity sessions become available in the park.

Julia added: “We’re thrilled to have this opportunity to encourage more people to use the park, we want to make it a lively, welcoming place for everyone to enjoy.”
