A BUSINESSWOMAN from Lyonshall has been recognised as Small Business Entrepreneur of the Year.

Jo Hilditch of White Heron Brands, which makes British Cassis, took home the accolade from the regional gala final of the Great British Entrepreneur Awards.

Now in its sixth year, the awards, which are sponsored by Natwest, celebrate the hard work and inspiring stories of entrepreneurs in the UK.

Winners were crowned across 12 categories.

Francesca James added: “2018 has been a record year for the Great British Entrepreneur Awards in the number of entries we received. But the quality of applications has been above and beyond what we’ve seen in previous years."

White Heron Drinks produces British Cassis from blackcurrants grown on their farm in Lyonshall and the drink is sold across the UK.

One of the judges, Darren Boocock of Deloitte, said of Jo: “Really inspirational story. A true entrepreneur, who has absolutely the right mindset.”

While another judge, Joel Blake OBE from Feelyx, said: “Joanna’s desire to stick to her principles and her 'own way' that does not just follow everyone else, while actively seeking advice from others and being aware of her own skills was very encouraging to see.” British Cassis has become an international hit in the luxury beverage market.
