Cotswolds farmers came together to show off the results of their summer cultivation skills at the Moreton Show Fodder Crops and Cereals competition, sponsored by Tayler & Fletcher.
Competition was fierce as the hay, straw and silage was displayed at The Fox Inn in Broadwell in readiness for the two judges, Philip Smith from the grain and seed merchants, Western Arable and John Burcher, an Arlingham farmer and a former chairman of the Gloucestershire Fruit and Grain Society.
Philip Smith said: "This competition is a great opportunity for local farmers to get together but they are always very competitive.
"It’s all part of the improvement and development that shows like Moreton encourage.
"Moreton Show society has an important role to play in bringing the town and country together and showing how well farmers manage the countryside."
Prizewinner Simon Gardner, of Guiting Manor Farms Ltd, said: "It’s a great competition between farmers and creates plenty of banter.
"The 2018 harvest was easy for farmers, it was dry and we had no drying costs. But sadly, with the dry spell, our yields were down."
The successful farmers will receive their trophies at Moreton Show’s Farms and Crops prize giving evening at the Fosseway Garden Centre on March 6. Next year’s Moreton Show is on Saturday, September 7.
