A SWIMMING pool has been forced to close after the water reportedly turned black whilst repairs were being carried out.

Malvern Splash announced on Facebook that the leisure club was experiencing 'technical issues in the plant room' resulting in the pool water turning green, on Monday (January 21).

The pool was forced to close for two days and then re-opened, but was closed again from Friday evening when the water turned back.

A Malvern Splash spokesman explained that, whilst working to repair the issue which caused the green water, carbon – used as part of the pool's filter system – entered the water due to a failure within the pool plant system, turning the water black.

The spokesman assured customers that there has been no problem with the water quality or cleanliness and the pool has been safe for swimmers.

Malvern Splash posted on Facebook on Saturday: “In light of recent issues at Malvern Splash the management team at Freedom Leisure has taken the decision to close the pool to carry out replacement of pool plant equipment – we are extremely sorry for the inconvenience caused by this.

“The green hue was a result of natural elements and although unsightly our five water checks per day and regular external independent testing have confirmed that the water was within industry operating parameters throughout, and safe for those swimming and children taking lessons.

“Due to the age of the centre the plant room has started to show signs of wear and therefore was not as quick at clearing this issue as it should have been.

“We wish to assure you that we are working to get the pool reopened in the shortest possible time and will keep you up to date with progress via social media and the website.”

Phase one of the work to repair the plant begins tomorrow (Tuesday).
