THERE must be nicer places to have a sleepover than cells occupied by criminals like the Peaky Blinders - but a Bromsgrove scout group say the experience was 'brilliant'.

The 6th Bromsgrove (Catshill) Scouts and Cubs Scouts became the first ever Scout Group to sleepover at The Lockup on Steelhouse Lane in Birmingham.

The Lockup was used by West Midlands Police from 1891 to 2016 and is now being developed into a police museum.

Scout Leader Mel said: “Steelhouse Lane housed many of the original gang members of the infamous local gang of criminals the Peaky Blinders as well as other high-profile murderers such as Fred West.”

She added that the scouts 'all had a brilliant night'.

The Lockup is a popular venue for ghost hunters from across the country and has also been used as a filming location for many TV programmes.

The group are now looking forward to more nights away during the year including attending ‘ShireJam’ camp with around 4000 participants in July.

Adult volunteers are being sought to join the group because demands from youngsters to join the scouts is currently outstripping their ability to provide.

The group provides support and training free of charge - email info@bromsgrovescouts.org.uk for more details.
