THIEVES made off with a cash machine during an early morning raid today.
The ATM was wrenched from the wall on the Co-operative store in Hay-on-Wye shortly after midnight.
The store on Newport Street was closed this morning following the break-in as police carried out investigations.
People in the border town told the Hereford Times that they believed a 4x4 was used to peel back the shutters and pull the cash machine free.
West Mercia Police said officers were called to the shop at 1.30am and found that entry had been forced to the store.
Inspector Robin Davies said: "We are appealing for the public's help with our investigation. I would urge anyone who witnessed the incident or saw anything suspicious in the area around the time of the incident to contact police."
Witnesses to the break-in are asked to call police on 101.
The shop is now back open.
