A NEW hangar at Shobdon Airfield is quickly taking shape and will mean there are more opportunities for people who want to try the 'unique experience' of gliding over Herefordshire.

Herefordshire Gliding Club, based at Shobdon near Leominster, said the new hangar was needed to support the club's growing flying programme.

Gliding involves flying unpowered aircraft using the same currents of air that birds use to fly, according to the British Gliding Association. They say average speeds can be over 100 miles per hour.

The new hangar will include a club members' area and facilities, with the overall aim of the building to improve and expand storage space for gliders and to support the growing club.

The club say the ability to store both of the club’s two-seat training gliders will mean they can offer more opportunities to trainee pilots and those who want to try the unique experience of gliding over Herefordshire’s beautiful countryside.
