A HEREFORD postman was raising the equivalent of £1,000 per mile when he took part in his 19th London Marathon in April.

Donations have finally stopped flooding in as the total amount raised by Mike Chandler for a Hereford charity topped £25,000, after they helped his daughter through being diagnosed with cancer.

Mr Chander, who finished in 4 hours 27 minutes, has raised £438,000 for local charities over the years and is over the moon with the total he raised for Yeleni this year.

He said: "Thanking friends for their generous support is one of the best and happiest parts of running the marathon. I am amazed and humbled that we have raised an awesome £26,000 for Yeleni which has supported my daughter Laura so well.

"All of that money has gone to Yeleni Therapy and Support in appreciation of the wonderful expert therapies they offered my daughter, Laura, to support her through her bowel cancer diagnosis and surgery last year.

"To know that such a team of experts was at hand to help offset the side effects of cancer surgery and medication, along with ongoing emotional support was such a blessing to Laura and, indeed, a relief to me as her father.

Founder of Yeleni, Nicky Heath, appreciated what Mr Chandler and the other Herefordshire residents had done to raise money for the charity.

"We are hugely grateful to local postman, Mike Chandler, Pedicargo's director Will Vaughan, clients of Yeleni and other residents of Herefordshire," she said.

"The success of this year's Marathon exceeded all hopes and expectations."

Yeleni offers a free package of support to anyone at any age with any cancer at any stage. This free package includes 9 hours of support through complementary therapies which clients say help to ease some of the symptoms and side-effects of cancer treatment.
