A DEVELOPER is set to build duplex apartments on a former industrial site in Colley Gate after being given the thumbs-up by planners.

Halesowen-based Ruskin Properties has been given approval to build three one-bedroom maisonettes on Toys Lane.

Building work has not yet started but the firm said the properties will be available for rent in May 2020.

The site, which fronts onto Colley Orchard, is home to vacant commercial/workshop buildings, which would be demolished to make way for the new two-storey homes, which would boast one dedicated parking space each.

A report by Dudley Council Officers states: "The proposed scheme has made full and efficient use of the land and the scheme adds to the vibrancy of the local context and character of the area."

Ruskin properties, a family firm based in Great Cornbow, issued a statement saying the "modern design of the buildings comprising courtyard gardens and roof terraces will bring something entirely new to the Halesowen area.

It added: "The appearance of this scheme is particularly distinctive with the use of patterned brickwork and large windows to ensure that natural light is maximised into the new homes.

"This stylish development will increase the availability of much-needed quality accommodation for the rental sector in the area."

Nick Burton, Managing Director of Ruskin Properties, said: “Ruskin properties are committed to providing high quality homes for the rental market in the local area.

He added: "We not only provide new homes for local people to rent but we are also a significant local employer that is passionate about the regeneration of the Black Country.”
