ENVIRONMENTAL campaigners will march through Hereford today (Friday) as students as they take part in what's being dubbed by organisers as the biggest global climate protest in history

Students from Hereford's colleges will be part of the Extinction Rebellion protest, which will go from Folly Lane, down Aylestone Hill and onto Widemarsh Street, before students return to classes.

Since the start of 2019, school strikes have been organised across the world, but students now admit the problem is too big for them.

"Young people have been striking for months to bring attention to the climate crisis," says Leo Lewis-Farley, student at Hereford Sixth Form College and one of the strike organisers.

"We are the ones who will inherit this damaged planet and we are the ones who have to live with the consequences of climate collapse.

"Our futures are being stolen, and yet our government refuses to act. We are calling on adults to join us in the strike because we can't do this alone."

The strike in Hereford is one of number around the UK, with protesters calling on the government declare a 'climate emergency', and doing more to tackle global warming.

The protest will start at 11.15am, and once the march reaches Widemarsh Street, the Extinction Rebellion group said they will hold 'a die in and speeches' before returning to class.
