A CARE home in Marlbrook has closed down after being labelled 'inadequate' for the second time in two years.

Residents were moved out of The Oaks Care Home on Birmingham Road last month after a Care Quality Commission inspection found their needs were 'not being met'.

The owner of the home - listed on the CQC website as a Mr S Siventhiran - has reportedly since decided to shut the facility down.

The Oaks was first rated 'inadequate' by the CQC in October 2017 but a follow-up visit in May 2018 found it had improved enough to be taken out of special measures.

However, concerns from members of the public over staffing levels at the home - which cared for 13 people aged over 65, some of whom had disabilities or dementia - prompted another CQC inspection two months ago.

That visit resulted in the home being assessed as inadequate in all five inspection areas - safety, effectiveness, care, responsiveness and leadership.

Worcestershire County Council confirmed the home had closed.

Councillor Adrian Hardman, cabinet member with responsibility for adult social care, said “During July 2019 Worcestershire County Council, working closely with The Care Quality Commission, became aware that the needs of residents funded by the Council, at The Oaks Care Home in Bromsgrove, were not being met.

"Families of those residents were immediately contacted and arrangements made with them for the residents to move to new homes.

"Subsequently, the owner announced that the home was to close altogether.

"Contact was made with the families of residents who were funding their own placements and support offered, by the Council, to find new homes to provide their care.

"Every resident was found a new home to provide care within a few days. As always, the health and well-being of the residents was the prime consideration for everyone.”

A CQC spokesperson added: “CQC inspected at The Oaks Care Home in Bromsgrove, in July and, as result of concerns, took action to protect the welfare of people using the service.

"A report of our findings is available online.

"We have worked closely with the local authority with regard to the home and understand the home is no longer in operation.

"All CQC’s action is open to appeal.”
