HARRIETT Baldwin, the MP for West Worcestershire, has visited a newly refurbished sports club following a £10,00 renovation work.

Mrs Baldwin recently visited Pershore Sports Club to inspect the newly refurbished squash and racketball courts.

The centre started almost 150 years ago as a cricket club, and is now home to hockey, skittles, darts and pool clubs in the Wychavon town.

Pershore Sports Club welcomed Mrs Baldwin to its premises following the recent £10,000 renovation of the courts, including the added benefit of new heaters in the hall.

Mrs Baldwin said: “I was delighted to be invited to visit Pershore Sports Club as it approaches its 150th anniversary and celebrate the recently refurbished squash courts.

“Community assets like sports clubs are highly valued, with the combination of a protected green space in the centre of the town and some great social facilities. Generations of Pershore people have enjoyed sports and leisure time there and I hope that the club continues in this style for many years to come.”

With a growing junior section across many of its clubs, Pershore Sports Club is recognised as a centre of sporting excellence and is looking forward to welcoming even more members following the expansion.

Chairman of Herefordshire and Worcestershire Chamber of Commerce and squash club member, Jim McBride, said: "Our players range from 12 to 70 years with a mixture of abilities, so everyone is welcome to take part in this all year-round sport.

“For those who are seeking team camaraderie, the high spirits in the clubroom after a game definitely adds to the whole experience."

Pershore’s squash club has two teams in the South Worcestershire leagues, as well as internal competitions.

For those interested in finding out more about the squash club, they are welcome to attend the club night on Monday evenings from 7.20pm before joining.
