AS part of the Bromsgrove Christmas Lights Switch-On on Saturday, November 23, people are being encouraged to get involved.

The 'Tell Me What You Want' project brings brand new interactive art to Worcester Road offering Bromsgrove residents the chance to make films with their phones, contribute to a large scale drawing, rearrange enamelled jewellery to reflect what they believe is beautiful, and engage in on-the spot poetry.

The event, commissioned by the Bromsgrove Arts and Culture Consortium, involves local artists who have designed interactive presentations in response to provocations... reasons for not being involved in arts and culture and the barriers faced by those who would like to be involved.

The idea evolved from asking local residents about their everyday creativity and the barriers they face.

The individual events will take place between 2pm and 7pm in venues on Worcester Road including Andy Shaw’s Film Workshop at Bayley’s of Bromsgrove, Laura Broderick’s giant drawing at 57 Monkeys, and Christine Harmer’s reconfigurable jewellery outside the Dog and Pheasant.

It is being organised by Bromsgrove Arts Alive, a group dedicated to supporting and promoting a broad spectrum of the arts in Bromsgrove and the surrounding areas.

The group produces a comprehensive members directory leaflet each quarter with a regularly updated version, plus news, and an events diary offering comprehensive information on current and future events.

For more on the interactive art projects and venues taking part, search for Tell Me What You Want on Facebook and Twitter or go to the Bromsgrove Arts Alive web site, bromsgroveartsalive.co.uk.

The annual lights switch-on events kick off in Bromsgrove on Saturday, November 23 at its usual location outside the Golden Cross pub.

It will once again be hosted by Malcolm Boyden from BBC Hereford and Worcester with Father Christmas and Snow White turning on the lights with other special guests at 5.30pm.

The lights in Rubery will be switched on the following week from New Road on Saturday, November 30 at 5.30pm.
