THE New Year has got off to a joyful start for families who welcomed their newborns on the first day of 2020.

First to enter the world at Worcestershire Royal Hospital in the new decade was baby girl Beatrice Edgar.

Beatrice was born at 2.18am and weighed 6.2 lbs.

The baby’s name was inspired from the character Beatrice Franklin from the BBC drama series Call The Midwife.

Her 25-year-old mum, Eleanor Edgar, from Bidford, said: “My husband likes Call The Midwife.

“It turns out I have two great grandmas called Beatrice which I didn’t know about. I found out this morning which was a nice surprise.”

The first-time mum added: “It’s surreal at the moment becoming a mum.

“It’s the best start to the new year.

“We hadn’t got anything planned - we don’t normally do much for new year so now we have a birthday to celebrate instead.”

Baby Beatrice arrived a little earlier than expected as she was due on January 5.
