A COUNTRY singer with links to Elvis Presley and Buddy Holly is to play an intimate set in Upton Warren this month.

Singer-songwriter Kevin Montgomery is heading to The Boat Shack Cafe at Upton Warren on Wednesday, February 12.

Kevin will be performing many of his songs and reminiscing about his parents' experiences with some of music's icons and his life on the road as a hardworking musician.

Montgomery’s mum sang with Elvis and his father, Bob Montgomery, wrote songs like “Heartbeat” for Buddy Holly, and was his first musical partner.

Kevin, meanwhile, has written songs for Martina McBride and sung on Lee Ann Womack records, and is a hardcore troubadour with four '50 States in 50 Days' tours under his belt.

His music so impressed Paul McCartney that Montgomery was invited to perform at the former Beatle's annual Buddy Holly birthday event in London.

Montgomery will be backed by Louisiana singer-songwriter/violinist Kelli Jones while Gregor Philp from 80s chart band Deacon Blue will be on guitar.

There are only 50 tickets available for the show, at a cost of £15 advance or £19 on the door if any remain.

Doors open at 7pm and the show starts at 7.30pm - call 07831 390194 for more information on tickets.
