PUPILS at Mickleton Primary School have visited the Antarctic and made television adverts for chocolate bars in their new library and media centre.

The centre includes recording equipment and a green screen suite, where the children can explore the world, create news reports and even become invisible, all without leaving the school.

Trustees from the Richard Porter’s School Foundation, which funded the centre, visited the school last week to officially open the new facilities and chairman Jo Lewis said: "We’ve been privileged to witness the children creating a news report relevant to their current curriculum.

"We hope these facilities will benefit all the pupils in the school and look forward to hearing feedback about their experiences using the suite."

While the library area has been fitted with shelves, new books and comfy beanbags to encourage reading, the green screen suite supports learning ranging from communication to teamwork and technical skills such as directing and film editing.

Year 1 teacher Greg Clarke said: "The children have grown up with this technology and they’re really confident with it.

"Our green screen is a smaller version of the ones used in films like Harry Potter and we’ve been having fun making people float in the air and become invisible!"

Headteacher Tom Roberts said: "We’re incredibly grateful to the foundation for its generous support of the school and I’d like to thank the trustees on behalf of all our pupils, staff and parents."
