THE team at Shropshire Hills Discovery Centre had another fun filled week of popular activities during February Half Term!

Children enjoyed taking part in the Cave Baby and Living the Stone Age activity, inspired by the well-loved Julia Donaldson’s book of a bored but creative baby and his magic ride through a moonlit landscape on a hairy mammoth.

The children heard the story of the Shropshire mammoth, experimented with how cave baby and his parents would have painted and tried some other stone age activities – they used fire bows, made natural necklaces, made paper hand axes and practised spear throwing.

The Cave Cooking activity gave the children an opportunity to forage for food and to cook like cave people.

Regular cookery classes are held at the Discovery Centre to encourage people of all ages to use fresh local produce.

Both activities were hugely popular with an extra session being put on each day for Cave Baby and two extra sessions during the week of Cave Cooking.

“We had a fantastic week, families really got involved in the Stone Age activities and it was lovely to have the centre so busy with lots of families, both local and new to the area,’ said education manager Stephanie Bellows.

The centre is now taking bookings for the Easter Holidays activities; pond dipping and Easter Cooking.
