THERE are two new members of Ludlow Town Council.

Two seats were up for election after the resignations in January of Councillors Tony Mahalski and Nicola Paton.

Phillip Adams from Corve Street and Hillary Hall from The Angel contested the Whitcliffe Ward.

Mr Adams won by 14 votes. He received 118 votes and Ms Hall 104.

The turnout in the poll that took place on Thursday, February 20 was 22 per cent.

Rod Naysmith from Downton View was returned to represent Clee View on Ludlow Town Council unopposed.

The next elections to the council are due to be held in May 2021.

Town councilors are not paid and work on a voluntary basis.

The Town Council has a range of responsibilities in Ludlow.

These include running the public conveniences, the Ludlow Market and the Henley Road cemetery.

The town council also distributes discretionary grants to groups and organisations in the town.

Councillors are also consulted on planning applications that are determined by Shropshire Council. The Town Council can make recommendations.

It levies a precept that is included in the annual council tax bill along with Shropshire Council and the fire and rescue service. Ludlow Town Council is also taking the lead on the repair of the town walls.
