A BIG-hearted boy from Redditch has been selling flower badges to raise money to support frontline NHS workers during the coronavirus pandemic.

Thomas Bennett, aged six, designed the pretty pink badges and has been making them with the help of his five-year-old sister Lilly-Mae Nash and mum Sophie Williams.

The kind youngster, who attends Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic First School, has raised over £800 for NHS Charities Together.

Mum Sophie says they have made over 100 badges and nurses have been wearing them at The Alexandra Hospital and Worcestershire Royal Hospital.

The family's decided to raise funds to show their "respect and gratitude" to care workers as they work tirelessly through the coronavirus outbreak.

She said: “Thomas suggested we make a flower for the nurses and doctors and any money we make should go towards them.

“I put a video of Thomas on Facebook just to my family and it just started off from there. People started donating money for the badges and I set up a JustGiving page.

“Nurses in Redditch and Worcester have been buying the badges. We’ve made well over a hundred of them. People have been wearing them to work. Someone from Australia has even donated.

“Thomas is doing really well – he’s raised over £800.

“He’s a very thoughtful boy. He loves doing things for other people and is happy to help the NHS.

“His family are all really proud of him.”

Thomas said: “Thank you, please carry on donating. I’m selling these badges to raise money for doctors and nurses.

“We’ve all got to work together and stay safe.”

Sophie says people can message her on Facebook, or email her at sophiejoannew2@icloud.com, to order a badge.
