STAFF at an Evesham bakery have said it is fantastic they have turned it round and have a received a five star food hygiene rating.

In March the Journal reported on the news Lawrance's Bakery, which has traded in Evesham for over 60 years, had a one star rating following an inspection.

At the time staff at the bakery told us the rating had been due to labelling allergens and the process of hygiene training, and they were "doing everything in the mean time to catch up with it".

And the work has paid off as the Food Standards Agency (FSA) has now awarded the High Street bakery five stars, following a new inspection on May 18.

In the report a FSA inspector found hygiene food handling to be very good, cleanliness and condition of facilities and building to be good and management of food safety to be good.

Andy Dolphin, joint manager of the bakery with Donald Mclellan, said: "It is fantastic.

"For us it was a wake up call, it came as a shock as we have been here trading for 60 years and everybody loves us.

"We put up the news on the five star rating on Facebook and it has had lots of positive comments. "The news has come at a good time as we are reopening the shop, and the Pershore one, again on Wednesday, starting with 9am to 2pm opening hours.

"People have a good vibe about us again," he added.
