THE Malvern Joggers haven't let the Lockdown hinder their charity fundraising activities.

Normally at this time of year they would host The MJ10k off-road event on Castlemorton and Welland Commons, but the lockdown meant the event was cancelled.

In spite of this, the club organised a Virtual MJ10k where runners could run their own 10k either on the original course or elsewhere then submit the time and receive a handmade Lockdown medal as a memento.

Strictly adhering to social distancing, more than 100 competitors took part either solo or in small groups of up to 6 people.

To date the total raised, including funds raised from other smaller events like The Freedom Parkrun coffee morning donations, stands at more than £1,000.

Fundraising will continue throughout the year in the hope of raising funds for the club's chosen charity of the year: Acorns Children's Hospice.

Mel Hall, area fundraiser for Acorns, said: "We’re really grateful to the Malvern Joggers who haven’t let lockdown hinder their fundraising and have raised a fantastic amount towards our vital care.

"The virtual run was such an imaginative idea, thank you so much to everyone who took part - the money you have raised will go directly to the local children and family who rely on Acorns care and support, all year round."

Lockdown has encouraged the club members to discover new talents, Julia Heron has been producing artwork showing off images of the normal Summer venues, while another member is writing a new thriller novel he hopes to get published, members have also taken up Strava art to draw pictures whilst enjoying their runs.
