PROPOSALS for three new shops opposite a leisure centre in Oldbury have been submitted to council planners.

Plans to demolish run-down industrial units opposite Portway Lifestyle Centre and build three new shops with four apartments above in their place have been submitted to Sandwell Council.

The application notes there re would be 11 car parking spaces at the rear of the site - four for the studio apartments and seven for shoppers.

Mr S Ali, of Birmingham, submitted the planning application on June 29.

Notes to planners state: "Planning consent is sought for a small residential and retail development on land at Newbury Lane, Oldbury.

"The site is currently unoccupied, and the existing buildings on the site are run-down and would be demolished as part of the proposed redevelopment."

It goes on: "The application site in Newbury Lane has been unoccupied for some time.

"The owner of the site used it for window tinting and wrapping of motor cars.

"The business has been moved to Birmingham, and the owner/applicant now wishes to redevelop the site."

Halesowen News:

It states that Newbury Lane is mainly residential, but there is a travel business, an NHS health centre, sports centre, care centre and church nearby.

The application notes that: "The proposed development would include three small shops at ground level.

"Each small retail unit would only be approximately 50 square metres.

"Four small studio apartments would be built above."

The proposal states: "The existing access would be closed, and a new access provided at the southern end of the site frontage."
