AN INVESTIGATION has been launched after a body was found in the river in Stourport.

West Mercia Police recovered the body of a man from the River Severn in the Astley area of the town at around 6pm on Friday (September 7).

A spokesman for West Mercia Police said: “The identity of the male body has not been made or confirmed. Investigations are ongoing.”

Shocked residents said they heard sirens and saw a number of emergency vehicles, including river rescue teams, rushing to the scene. The area was cordoned off for some time on Friday night.
