A KIDDERMINSTER toddler made his parents proud after springing into action to help his mum as she went into labour.

Owen Woodall, who is just 20 months old, was quick to support his mum Steph by rubbing her back, arms and pushing her hair back when she went into labour on Wednesday October 10.

Owen's dad Leigh Woodall was out of the house shopping when he was called by his wife Steph after her pregnancy pains started to worsen at around 5pm.

When Leigh returned home he found Steph on all fours on the sofa crying in pain, with the toddler rubbing her back to comfort her.

Leigh called for an ambulance that had to travel from Shrewsbury to their home on Offmore Road, when he feared he would not make the drive to the hospital in time.

While his dad was on the phone receiving instructions, Owen continued to rub his mum's arms, back, and pushed her hair back whilst the family waiting for the ambulance.

Leigh said: I was on the phone for just over 25 mins waiting for the crew as the West Midlands ambulance caller was telling me what to do.

"While I was doing this, my boy was still helping out rubbing his mum by rubbing her arm and pushing her hair back.

"He did get upset once, but I told him it was alright and we were on a team like on Paw Patrol, then he was back to helping.

“We are really proud of him.

"It was brilliant just to be there and see what he did.

"He’s made me so proud as a dad."

On the arrival of the crew and midwife, Steph was taken to Worcester Meadow Birth Centre, where she gave birth to a 8lb 6oz baby girl, Erin, at 7:31pm on the evening.

Leigh added: "Owen is the best big brother already.

"He’s been so loving, and keeps wanting to hold her and feed her."
