A STOURPORT youngster is in pole position after securing a racing license after his first stint out on the track.

Leo Billingham, 8, recently passed his Motor Sport Association (MSA) Race licence, placing him on track to achieve his racing dream.

The star racer in the making undertook a number of tests at Hunts Kart Racing Club in Kimbolton, which was his first time driving on the track.

The testing is the same for all ages and involved a driving test and theory based tests of flags, rules and practices.

The young driver is still very new to his Honda Cadet Kart.

The licence allows Leo to race with some of the best in the world and he has high hopes of making the Super One and British Karting Championship Series, which is the field where Lewis Hamilton was first spotted for his talent.

Leo has also secured the sponsorship of Varsity Building Products, which will help him reach the next level.

Karl Perks, Director of Varsity Building Products said: “We are proud to have the opportunity to sponsor Leo.

"A driving factor behind our business is to be able to give back to the local community which supports us.

"Last year we sponsored the Stourport Swifts Juniors and this year, we are able to build on that by supporting an extraordinary local talent, Leo Billingham.

"We have seen something special here and hope that this boost propels him onto greater things.”
