CONCERNED residents in Kidderminster have had to face crossing a busy dual carriageway after a subway continues to flood.

People took to social media to highlight their safety fears about the waterlogged subway on Worcester Road, which pedestrians use to head in and out of town.

Worcester Road resident Catharine Roberts says the subway has become flooded several times in recent months.

She says the passage is the only way for those who don’t drive to get into town who live on the Worcester Road, without walking miles out of the way or crossing the main road.

Catharine said: "I have to, like so many others, run the risk of crossing that road with my children to use another of those passage ways that aren’t flooded."

Some Facebook users have called the flooding "disgusting".

One user said: "I've just seen people trying to cross Worcester Road opposite Hire-It, something I've had to do before due to the flooding.

"Someone is going to get killed. I too have reported this several times."

Another said: "I just hope it's sorted before it's too late. You have no option but to cross Worcester Road otherwise." Another said: "It's the only way I can get to work. So before I start I am soaked."

Worcestershire County Councillor Nathan Desmond took to Facebook to agree with residents, calling the subway flooding "a total disgrace."

He said: "As the local county councillor I reported this issue about three weeks ago.

"I can only apologise. It’s totally unacceptable and I've had a lot of complaints but I’ll keep pushing highways to take action."

A spokesperson for Worcestershire County Council said: “There is a maintenance regime in place for the subway and we will look into this issue.”
