A CONCERNED resident of picturesque Upper Arley near Kidderminster is urging sunseekers to follow coronavirus lockdown measures during the warm weather this weekend.

The village resident, who has asked to remain anonymous, says people are still travelling to the area with their children or to walk their dogs in spite of Government advice.

"Village closed" signs are already on display, and posters are now being put up by residents to urge outsiders to stay away to prevent the spread of Covid-19.

It comes after Prime Minister Boris Johnson yesterday urged people to resist the temptation to “hang out” in the sunshine over the weekend.

The resident said: "Upper Arley is beautiful. It's a lovely day out whatever the weather, although when it's warm we have an unprecedented number of people visit, which normally we are grateful for - the pub, railway, B&B, tearooms and arboretum thrive during these times.

"However, amid this horrible situation we find ourselves in, our village is closed to visitors to protect the vulnerable and elderly.

"People from out of the village do not it appear understand the importance of following the government advice.

"Already today I have counted eight people walking their dog or having a family outing, all arriving in cars from god knows where and parking in a residents car park as all other car parks are locked and closed.

"It is ridiculous that people think the rules do not apply to them."

They added: "We are expecting warm weather this weekend too, what are we to do?

"We cant approach these people and say go away. The police may do as they are patrolling the village.

"We also have cameras in the village so number plates will be reported if there is no good reason to come here if you do not live here.

"It is really distressing many of the elderly visitors and needs to stop."
