THE MP for Wyre Forest Mark Garnier has thrown his weight behind The Shuttle's Love Local Business campaign.

We launched the campaign last week to support local businesses as they emerge from the Coronavirus pandemic and subsequent lockdown.

Many local businesses, including shops, have now reopened but others such as hairdressers and gyms are still prevented from opening their doors.

Even those that have remained open throughout lockdown have seen a significant loss in income.

Mr Garnier said: "Local businesses are the life blood of any community. That has always been the case and it has always been the case that if we do not use them, we lose them. But the recent pandemic has shown that something completely unpredictable can knock businesses really badly, even terminally.

"That is why we all need to think about how we spend our money in the coming weeks and months. Do we take the easy option to go online to buy something? Or do we spend a little bit longer to go and support local traders? Do we buy beer from a local supermarket? Or do we drop by the newly reopened pubs for a quiet pint? All these simple, small decisions make important differences to local businesses.

"I know everyone has been affected by CV19, especially those furloughed or made redundant, or those whose own businesses have been damaged. But supporting our local businesses is hugely important."

As part of the Newsquest publishing group, The Shuttle reaches a huge percentage of the local population across our well-established regional brands including print publications, record online audiences and social media channels.

Shuttle editor Stephanie Preece said: "This is a crucial time for local businesses as they try to recover from the impact of the lockdown which, for many, has seen them without any income for more than two months.

"It is therefore fantastic to have the support of our local MPs as we launch this campaign to try and support out great local, independent businesses.

β€œIn the coming months we will be promoting these businesses in our newspaper, on our website and our social media channels,to help spread the message that they are open and highlight why they are so valuable to this community.

β€œI urge all of our readers to show that they love local business by supporting them.”
