A BRAND new B&M store and garden centre will open its doors in Kidderminster this Saturday (June 27).
The much-anticipated opening will bring 66 jobs to the former Homebase site in Spennells Valley Road.
Customers will be able to find a wide variety of branded products, including toys, food and drink, pet range, health and beauty and homewares. The store also boasts its own garden centre, selling hundreds of plant varieties.
The store will be declared officially open by VIP guest, Dale Preece-Kelly, from Wolverley, who was nominated as a "coronavirus hero" by readers.
When the country went into lockdown, Dale set about creating a support group to help residents of Kidderminster. He recruited more than 270 local volunteers who help to support people throughout the town, should they be self-isolating and need essentials picking up, or need a chat when they are feeling lonely.
B&M said it was inundated with nominations for Dale. One person said: “He has been an angel on earth, organising the Kidderminster coronavirus community support group.
"All the help he and the other volunteers have given and still continue to give our community should be recognised and rewarded.
"Dale and the volunteers have gone above and beyond for the people of Kidderminster. They have sacrificed their time to bring help, support, a ray of sunshine and hope to so many people in what has been very trying times for us all.”
New store manager Chris Summers said: “We’ve had hundreds of nominations and there are so many amazing people in the community that it was hard to pick just one winner.
"Dale stood out for us because he’s made a huge difference to people’s lives of the past few weeks and is a great example of people who have gone above and beyond in the local community.
He added: “We’re really excited about the opening and we’re looking forward to welcoming people into their new B&M tomorrow.”
Dale will receive a VIP welcome and a £250 voucher at the launch before taking centre stage to cut the ribbon and declare the store officially open.
This will be Kidderminster's second B&M store. The branch at the Swan Centre remains open for business.
