MEMBERS of the Vale of Evesham Civic Society have donated a bench in memory of VECS member David Way who died earlier this year.

David Way was a proud member of the Evesham community, becoming a member of VECS in 1973 and serving as secretary for many years before taking the helm as Chairman. He worked tirelessly to promote Evesham, advocating high standards to improve and protect Evesham’s heritage.

Amongst David’s talents were his enthusiasm, his unrelenting work rate and his carpentry skills which are still enjoyed today. Amongst his many responsibilities and achievements, David was responsible for producing the VECS newsletters and significantly rallied support to create and install the information board for the statue of Eof in the Market Place.

On Monday November 12, committee members of VECS were joined by Caroline, David’s daughter and Ashleigh Jayes manager of the Almonry to formally hand over a memorial bench in David’s name. The bench sits in the Almonry garden facing David’s former home in Abbey Gate.

Almonry Manager Ashleigh Jayes said "David was such an active member of the Evehsam community and loved this particular area of town. It’s an honour and a pleasure to receive this bench in his name. We hope our visitors spend many happy hours using it."
