The Evesham Job Club meets every Tuesday morning at Evesham library.

It's a relaxed, informal group of people who are trying to help each other find that ideal job or perhaps return to work after a break. From its name you might think that the Job Club is an arm of the Department of Work and Pensions, Job Centre Plus on Abbey Road, but it is totally independent. Now the Job Club is sited right next door to the newly relocated Worcestershire Hub so it’s easy to find.

It is one of a network of Job Clubs across Worcestershire offered by the Libraries and Learning Service; most of our towns have one. All you have to do is turn up; you don’t have to fill in any forms; anybody looking for a job is welcome.

The Job Club has exclusive use of 4 of the library's computers between 10.30 a.m. and 12.30 p.m. on Tuesday each week. You don't need to be a whizz on a computer to search for work. There to lend a helping hand is Peter Smith, a retired teacher, sometimes supported by another volunteer. He specialises in helping people smarten up their CVs, write letters of application and in searching for jobs online.

Applying for a job has changed dramatically in recent years. Fortunately some posts are still advertised in local newspapers like the Evesham Journal. "We look at the jobs' page every week in the Journal" said Mr Smith. "That's one of the many advantages of being based in the library: we have both electronic and hardcopy information available in one place and we are easy to find in Oat Street, just off the High Street in the middle of town a few paces away from the bus station."

Most jobs are now advertised on websites online and many applications have to be completed using the same system. Mr Smith said: "It can be daunting for someone who is not familiar with computers but we hope that with our guidance, people quickly gain the confidence to search for and apply for jobs online. If you can use a mobile phone, you can use a computer. Often help comes from other, tech savvy jobseekers".

The Job Club keeps up-to-date its list of the best websites where you can search for the type of job that you are looking for and the area you are in.
