Action for Children are currently working in partnership with Worcestershire Health and Care NHS Trust to recruit and train Breast Buddy Volunteers within South Worcestershire.

Breastfeeding Peer Support Volunteers (Breast Buddies) are mothers who are passionate about breastfeeding, have successfully breastfed at least one child and have a desire (working alongside paid members of the breastfeeding support team), to help other mothers in their local community do the same.

The charity welcomes all ages to train (mothers / grandmothers), all they ask is that you volunteer for 1 year after completing the training.

Training consists of a 4 x 2hr informal, interactive sessions followed by attendance at a minimum of 4 supervision sessions a year.

You’ll learn about how breastfeeding works, responsive feeding, baby led weaning, & the UNICEF Baby Friendly Initiative.  You’ll also pick up lots of information on positioning, attachment, longer term breastfeeding, problem solving and communication skills.

The volunteers we have at Action for Children are a vital part of the team.  They are skilled and committed individuals who make a huge difference to children and families in the local area.

Ness Cole:  Head of Service – Action for Children South Worcestershire Parenting and Community Development said: “I have found that my experience of working in a voluntary capacity for Action for Children extremely rewarding and enjoyable. The people who I have come into contact with within the Children’s Centre where I am based and the wider organisation, without exception, have made me feel very welcome. It is a pleasure to offer my time and contribute to such a worthy and important charity.”
