WARRIORS full-back Chris Pennell is hoping to agree a new contract soon and has revealed he would like to see out his career with the Sixways club.
The 25-year-old has graduated from Worcester academy member to first XV regular and is hitting top form after hopefully putting a run of serious injuries behind him.
The former club captain, whose current deal expires at the end of this season, said: “There have been talks, so hopefully we will know what we’re doing sooner rather than later.
“In an ideal world, this is where I would stay for my whole career, but sometimes situations dictate otherwise, but this is my home town and I’d love to be here ongoing. Fingers crossed, we’ll know what we’re doing soon.”
Pennell added: “To a very large degree, contract negotiations are a very private thing but some guys are more comfortable than others talking about it.
“There are a couple of guys I feel I can trust to talk to and value their advice on things, which is also important – to get a point of view from your peers. It’s the age-old situation – you look at the guys who have left and done well and there are as many, if not more, that have left and their careers have gone backwards.
“It’s a gamble to stay, it’s a gamble to go.
“I have developed as a player and as a person here – I’d like to think I’ve grown up a bit – and in an ideal world I’ll be here for a long time to come.”
