FIRST-half goals from Danny Glover and Michael Taylor got Worcester City back to winning ways with a dominant display at a damp and dreary Droylsden.

The duo, who were also on target in last Saturday’s 3-2 home defeat to Histon, struck within five minutes of each other at the Butchers Arms last night to give City a second successive away win in Blue Square Bet North.

Glover fired the visitors into a 25th-minute lead, prodding home from close range before laying the ball off for Taylor to double the advantage.

Taylor was a real handful although he spurned three gilt-edged chances to have made life a lot easier for his side.

Droylsden came more into the game after the break but Worcester also defended stoutly when required.

Conditions were atrocious early on in Greater Manchester, with the wind and rain lashing the players and cutting the pitch up.

But it was Carl Heeley’s hard-working team who dealt with them better and they controlled the game from the first whistle.

Greg Mills was his usual bag of tricks down the left and the inclusion of Matt Birley on the right provided more balance.

The visitors made the early running and Glover forced keeper Dale Latham to tip his curling effort over.

Seconds later, a kick from Latham rebounded off the on-rushing Taylor but the striker stumbled as he tried to turn the ball home.

City continued to dominate and it was no surprise when they broke the deadlock.

Mills dug out a cross from the left, the defence failed to clear and Glover pounced to turn the ball in.

The second goal arrived on the half-hour and owed a lot to the strength of City’s number 10. Excellent build-up play saw Tom Thorley feed Mills, whose pass to Glover was confidently held up by the striker before he played it to Taylor on the right of the area to fire an assured effort across the keeper.

Taylor also lashed over after side-stepping Mike Byron following Birley’s threaded pass, and contrived to fire woefully wide when attempting to curl the ball in off the inside of his right boot.

Worcester, for whom Mike Symons replaced Taylor for the final 25 minutes, were equally as commanding in the second-half despite not adding to their tally.

Mills powered into the box before drawing a save from Latham, while Glover was also denied twice by the Bloods keeper.

Droylsden saw more of the ball in the second period but the closest they came was a Gomez Dali run which was thwarted by Glyn Thompson.
