WORCESTER-born Danny Jackman is ai-ming to put his disappoi-ntment at lea-ving Gilling-ham behind him by leading Kiddermin-ster Harriers back into the Football League.

After being voted the Gills’ player-of-the-year last season, the 30-year-old midfielder had hoped to remain in Kent but was deemed surplus to requirements by manager Martin Allen.

However, Jackman agreed an 18-month deal at Aggbor-ough and made his debut in Tuesday’s 1-0 victory over AFC Telford. That kept Harriers, who visit Newport County today (3.15), in the Blue Square Bet Premier play-off zone and Jackman wants them to stay there.

He said: “I want to help the club get promoted back to the league and that’s my aim. With the manager and the squad we’re quite capable of being able to do that.

“With my experience, hopefully we can get promotion this year. If not, we will go again next year.

“The manager was really passionate about how he wants to play and was enthusiastic about getting me in and as a player you want to play for a manager that backs you to the hilt.”

Jackman, who turned down offers from Football League clubs to join Steve Burr’s side, added: “I back myself ability-wise to still be playing League football and hopefully I can help Kidderminster get promoted this season.

“Admittedly, I would have liked to have been doing that at Gillingham, but it wasn’t meant to be.”

l Harriers have rearranged their home match against Woking for Tuesday, March 26.
