I HOPE everyone who watched Worcester Wolves’ first match at the University Arena will come back for more this season.

It was a very special occasion for so many different reasons. Not only was it our first game there but we were playing the defending league champions and had 1,700 people in the crowd.

It was fitting the players responded really well to that and came away with a fantastic win. I was really delighted with the performance.

To have the game delayed because people were still queueing outside to get in was a good sign.

We just hope those new people who came enjoyed what they saw, will tell their friends and be back again to carry on supporting us with a bumper crowd.

The first chance to do that is against Cheshire Phoenix tomorrow night (7.30) although we also visit London Lions tonight.

It was tremendous that so many people came to the Arena to find out what all the fuss was about and hopefully they enjoyed the whole game-day experience. Yes, we won but there was so much more with the cheerleaders and half-time games. It is family entertainment.

It takes hard work and we have to continue promoting the games, engage with the community and, if the team is successful, people will want to come and watch them.

I am sure there are things that will have been learned from dealing with a large crowd and the club are trying to put things right for the coming games.

But I am concentrating on the team and making sure they are prepared. In all areas of the basketball club, everybody has got a job to do and if we do it well I don’t see why we can’t be successful.

As for the game itself, to keep Leicester down to 61points was a tremendous effort on our part.

Last year, they were by far the best defensive team and we knew they were going to go after us early on.

But we didn’t just sit back and take it, we actually gave as good as we got, so physically and mentally I thought we were brilliant as a team and we stuck to our guns really well.

We didn’t break down at any point — we had lapses in plays, which will always happen, but we dealt with Leicester when they had the run and executed offensively better than they did.
