WORCESTER City have more FA Cup success in their sights tomorrow as they bid to move a step closer to the first round proper.

City take on Rugby Town in the third qualifying round at Aggborough (3pm) knowing a victory would put them within one win of joining Football League clubs in the competition.

Success would also earn the club £7,500 in prize money on top of the £4,500 from the previous round’s 4-0 triumph over Coventry Sphinx and gate receipts from both matches.

City are looking to bounce back from last Saturday’s 4-0 Skrill North defeat at Stockport County, while Rugby, sixth in Southern League Division One Central — two levels lower than Worcester — will be out to cause an upset.

They hammered Blaby and Whetstone 6-0 in the previous round and, despite losing 2-1 to Chasetown in the FA Trophy last Saturday, have won five of their last seven games in all competitions, including an 8-1 destruction of Chertsey Town.

Worcester manager Carl Heeley is wary of their threat and has called on his side to rediscover the form that saw them go five matches unbeaten before last weekend.

He said: “We want to have a good run in the cup and have got a home draw but I am not a big believer in what division you play in mattering. It’s the cup and a one-off so we have got to be on our guard against that. They are a decent outfit and have got a fair bit of firepower. They are going well and we have got to respect that.

“But we are a Conference North club and, although we had a blip last week, overall we have been playing pretty well so I want us back to how we were prior to the Stockport game.”

Midfielder Phil Trainer’s one-month loan spell from Nuneaton Town is due to expire on Wednesday and, unless City can negotiate an extension, he won’t play tomorrow.

Heeley added: “We would like to extend his loan and, if we did, then there’s a possibility he would be eligible for the cup. We are having those discussions at the moment.”

Right-back George Williams (ankle) and striker Ethan Moore (groin) both trained in the week and could be in the squad.

Meanwhile, striker James Lemon, who marked his 18th birthday with a goal in the win over Coventry, scored both goals as City beat Boldmere St Michaels 2-0 in the FA Youth Cup second qualifying round.

They now host Rugby Town at Studley on Wednesday, October 23.
