EVESHAM United manager Paul West does not want his players to dwell on their FA Trophy exit.

West's men were beaten 1-0 at Nationwide South side Weston-super-Mare last Saturday but had several chances to force a replay.

However, although disappointed to have lost, the Robins boss believes the team can be proud of their efforts in the cup competitions this season after also reaching the FA Cup third qualifying round.

West said: "We were disappointed because it was a great opportunity to put the club on the map.

"The cup and trophy are great experiences but, as a football match, I don't think we could have done any more to get something out of the game at Weston.

"Lady luck evaded us at the wrong time. They were relieved at the final whistle and the fact their goalkeeper was voted man-of-the-match says it all.

"We can't feel sorry for ourselves and we have got to move on now. In some ways we can concentrate on the league but we can look back and enjoy the success we have had. I am very proud of the players."

Evesham face a tough start to their Christmas fixture list with a trip to third-placed Stourbridge in Southern League Division One Midlands on Saturday (3pm).

The two sides met in the Errea Cup first round in September at the Memorial Ground when an under-strength United side lost 4-3 and West expects it to be tough again.

He said: "The players are going to be asked difficult questions and it's about how we answer them. It's a difficult place to go at the best of times."

Full-back Dominic Reece serves a one-match ban after collecting five bookings, while a leg injury keeps centre-half Steve Luckett out.

However, midfielder Mark Hands returned to light training this week following a lengthy spell on the sidelines with a groin problem.
