BROADHEATH Belters suffered their first defeat of the season in Worcester Table Tennis League Division Two.

Up-and-coming junior Luke Moffatt, in his first match for Jorakeroge, was in top form as he defeated Pete Roberts and Ken Hipwell 3-1.

Teaming up with John Mytton, Moffatt kept his fine record against Roberts and Hipwell in the doubles.

Jorakeroge went 5-2 up and then Belters' previously unbeaten Brett Brinning suffered his first setback, losing in four sets to Geoff Collins.

With Collins completing his hat-trick, Brinning was then beaten 3-1 by Moffatt to seal all four points in a 8-2 victory. Belters had more joy though when they earlier brought high-flying YMCA Falcons down to earth with a 7-3 victory.

Brinning was at his best, winning all his singles and teaming up with Roberts to beat John Stalker and John Cawthra in the doubles.

Stalker had got the home team off to a good start, defeating Hipwell and Roberts, but it took the steady Peter Stevens to salvage a point for Falcons.

Playing at home, unbeaten Himbleton C' could not hold out against under-strength YMCA Falcons without top seed Stalker.

In stepped Dave Elliott who just pipped Adam Throssell 25-23 in the opening game and went on to win the marathon 11-9 in the fifth.

Elliott was man-of-the-match, beating Malcom Parker and Brian George before teaming up with Cawthra in the doubles to beat them again.

Parker, who had lost to Stevens, came back from two games down to beat Cawthra.

But with Throssell retiring injured, Falcons came away with three points from a 7-3 success.

Himbleton C' bounced back in their nip-and-tuck derby match with Himbleton A' with man-of-the-match Parker making the difference.

Parker won all his singles and paired up with George to beat Malcolm Crane and Ray Rennison in the doubles.

In the penultimate match, John Rowe beat George to give the A' team a chance of a draw but then Pete Rogers overcame Crane in the fifth game of a close match.
