DROITWICH put in a gallant display despite losing 32-10 at unbeaten Midlands Two West (South) leaders Old Laurentians.

The hosts scored an early penalty but Spa’s first attack forced an infringement and Bobby Scott-Walker levelled the scores with his kick.

Laurentians hit back with good play but an interception by Scott-Walker gave him the opportunity for a 50-metre sprint, fending off defenders to score under the posts and convert the try himself.

The hosts attacked with tenacity and aggression, something which Spa lacked considerably in both attack and defence.

Laurentians pulled a try back before half-time to go in trailing 10-8 at the break.

With Spa against the wind in the second period, they knew it would be difficult.

Ross Midgley and Nick Godfrey gained valuable metres but Spa kept losing the ball at the breakdown.

Full-back Gregor Macleod put in a fine display under constant attack to relieve the pressure for the young visiting side.

However, Laurentians soon scored three quick tries to kill the game off.

Good running by Spa’s Luke Topping was in vain as they just could not get any fluency into the game after incurring constant penalties.

A lack of belief and fitness took their toll on the mid-table side, who have a week off before they aim to finish the season in style.
