CHRIS Cornes faces a race against the clock to be fit for Worcester City's trip to Droylsden on Saturday.

Left wing-back Adam Burley is already ruled out of the clash against the league leaders and Cornes could join him.

The midfielder, who scored twice against the Bloods in November, is a doubt after suffering a groin injury in Wednesday's 2-1 Worcestershire Senior Cup defeat against Evesham United.

Cornes, replaced by Nick Colley after 51 minutes of the semi-final, has had an extra 24 hours to recover as City did not train tonight following a hectic schedule of games.

They have played three times in five days and player-manager Andy Preece expects them to be ready for the Manchester trip.

"It would be too much to train after Saturday, Monday and Wednesday," he said. "We have had a lot of games in a short period of time. It shouldn't hinder us. We know the way we play and we know all about Droylsden."

Graham Ward, who missed the Lancaster victory through suspension, is likely to return to league action after completing 90 minutes against Evesham in midweek.

Goalkeeper Danny McDonnell will also be back after making way for Paul Wyatt on Wednesday but Burley has been on the sidelines since the Leigh loss.

Preece added: "We haven't been able to get a settled side out. We haven't been able to pick the same team too often because we haven't had everybody available."

Meanwhile, Evesham United have extended their stay at St George's Lane until the end of the 2007/08 season.

The Robins have been ground-sharing with Worcester this season after leaving Common Road as they wait for their new stadium to be finished.
