WORCESTER'S travelling angler John Maloney finally won a match on home soil.

Maloney topped a talented turn-out to win the latest Alan's Tackle open on the top lake at Brockamin fisheries.

Drawn on permanent peg 34, the Harris MG angler offered sweetcorn into the margins.

But he had to wait until the second half of the five-hour event before netting carp to 14lb in his excellent 57-0-0 total.

Pershore's Steve Juliff claimed the runner-up spot by taking 34-10-0 from peg 22.

Juliff's net also contained good carp, which fell for pellet presented across to the opposite island.

Making a return to the open match circuit was third-placed Anthony Primaverina (Alan's Tackle) who adopted a controversial floating bread approach on his peg 18 in order to net a 25-0-8 total.

There will be another open contest at Brockamin this Sunday with details from Alan's Tackle on 01905-422107.

Andy Wheeler made the most of the warm weather to cash in on the cruising carp shoals on Cotheridge pool in order to win the Barbourne AC Sunday league event by a clear margin.

Pegged on permanent 13, Wheeler offered his luncheon meat bait just six inches deep on pole tackle to take carp to 8lb in his winning 47-3-0 net.

New member Terry Box continued his good run by securing second place with a pellet-caught 35-14-0 from peg 25.

Carp specialist Craig Davis finished third, his fish also falling to pellet presented on the bottom on peg eight before shallowing up in order to end with a 33-5-0 total. It was enough to beat Richie Parker whose 32-8-0 came from nearby peg six.

Fishery manager Mal Watson (DGL) proved in-depth knowledge of a commercial venue is invaluable by winning the three-day Easter Festival at Moorlands Farm with a three-point total.

Second was Albert Jones (Smithy's) with four points and a 120-13-0 overall weight and third-placed Lawrence Connelly also managed four points and 108-3-0.

Neville Groves won the final match with a 100-14-0 net, containing carp and around 20lb of skimmers from Meadow 19.

Mark Tooze (SBS) came second with 78-0-0, while third was Watson, taking 69-4-0 to the scales.

Victory on the Saturday Open, which attracted 23 anglers to the Bank and Moors pools, went to Lee Richards with 103-13-0 consisting of all carp, taken shallow on the pellet on Moors pool peg two.

Stourport's Lee Griffiths was second, weighing 66-6-0, and Steve Chester secured third prize with a weight of 65-11-0.

Sunday's open contest attracted 33 anglers to the Silver and Meadow pools as Dave Elliot stole the show with 109-13-0, taken from Meadow peg 51 on luncheon meat.

Worcester's Craig Bennett was second with 84-13-0 to beat Chester's 82-3-0.

Catches on both commercial fisheries and the local canal should improve with the warmer weather although boat traffic could be a problem on the latter.

The stillwater trout season is now well under way with Draycote in particular once again in top form with many limit bags falling to buzzers.
